Challenge: Every year, a significant number of people are injured in incidents involving heavy vehicles that are used for transportation within facilities.

Road safety is a global issue, leading to around 328 deaths occurring daily. India has the highest number of reported road accident deaths out of 199 countries, accounting for nearly 11% of all accident-related deaths worldwide. In 2019, 151,113 people were killed and 451,361 were injured in road traffic accidents in India, however, this may be an underestimation as not all injuries are reported to the police. Many efforts have been made to reduce these safety incidents, including the annual Road Safety Week organized by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which runs from January 11th to January 17th and aims to raise awareness about the importance of road safety.

Solution: Using AI to Enhance Road Safety

To tackle road safety challenges, Coats employed Intenseye's safety incident management software. By integrating with their existing CCTV infrastructure, AI workplace safety software enabled the Coats safety team to observe road conditions and identify risks, such as increased speeding incidents, allowing for timely and effective corrective actions.

Initial measures, including driver training and targeted behavioral training, resulted in a 20% reduction in speeding detections within the first week. Persistent communication and enforcement of safety requirements and controls led to a reduction of over 50% in speeding incidents. This proactive approach not only improved road safety at the facility but also demonstrated the effectiveness of using EHS management software to prevent safety incidents.
