Mastering SIF prevention through real-time safety management

April 24, 2025

National Safety Council (NSC) statistics show that while the Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) in the U.S. declined from 3.4 per 100 full-time workers in 2012 to approximately 2.7 in 2022, the rate of preventable fatalities has remained largely unchanged. While recordable injuries are decreasing, serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) have not followed the same downward trend—highlighting the urgent need for a more focused approach to identifying and mitigating SIF precursors.

Despite improvements in overall safety metrics, many organizations still struggle to access or operationalize the insights necessary to prevent SIF events. Connecting that data to high-risk patterns and translating it into targeted prevention strategies remains the challenge.

This whitepaper explores how leading EHS teams are bridging this gap by aligning real-time safety management and human expertise. By rethinking traditional workflows, elevating observation quality, and prioritizing SIF potential through a risk-based lens, organizations are mastering SIF prevention through real-time safety management.
